Representing West Virginia during ASTA Legislative Day 2024
During the ASTA Legislative Day 2024 in Washington, D.C., I had the incredible opportunity to represent West Virginia’s travel advisors on Capitol Hill. As I walked the halls of Congress, I felt a deep sense of responsibility to voice the unique needs and challenges faced by our state’s travel industry. Meeting with our legislators, I shared stories from home—highlighting both the beauty of West Virginia’s destinations and the hurdles our travel professionals encounter. My goal was to advocate for policies that not only support travel advisors but also promote tourism and economic growth in our state.
In discussions with lawmakers, I emphasized the importance of improving infrastructure to make West Virginia’s scenic locations more accessible to travelers. I also addressed the need for funding in tourism marketing to showcase what our state has to offer. By sharing personal experiences and success stories, I aimed to put a human face on the broader industry issues. Participating in ASTA Legislative Day allowed me to contribute to shaping legislation that impacts us all, and I left Washington feeling hopeful about the positive changes we can achieve together.
